【DESCRIPTION】
Vetrimoxin L.A. is a long-acting, broad-spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin suspension for injection. Each ml contains Amoxicillin trihydrate equivalent to 150 mg Amoxicillin.
【APPEARANCE】
A white or off-white oily suspension.
A slight sediment may form upon standing, which easily redisperses upon vigorous shaking to form a homogeneous suspension.
【PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION】
Pharmacodynamics: Amoxicillin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Clostridium spp., Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp., and Proteus spp.
Pharmacokinetics (Long-Acting Profile): Formulated with a specialized oil-based vehicle (Long-Acting, L.A.), the product is slowly released and absorbed from the injection site, maintaining effective therapeutic plasma and tissue concentrations over an extended period and reducing the required frequency of administration.
【INDICATIONS】
Indicated for the treatment of systemic and localized infections caused by amoxicillin-susceptible microorganisms in cattle, pigs, sheep, dogs, and cats, including:
Pigs: Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pleuropneumonia, atrophic rhinitis), urogenital infections, Mastitis-Metritis-Agalactia (MMA) syndrome, and skin/soft tissue infections.
Cattle & Sheep: Respiratory diseases (e.g., pasteurellosis, pneumonia), digestive tract infections, mastitis, arthritis, and wound infections.
Dogs & Cats: Secondary infections associated with urogenital, respiratory, skin, and wound conditions.
【DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION】
Route of Administration: Deep intramuscular injection (cattle, pigs) or subcutaneous injection (dogs, cats). Shake the vial thoroughly before use.
Recommended Dosage:
Standard Dose: 15 mg Amoxicillin per kg of body weight (equivalent to 2 ml of product per 20 kg body weight).
Frequency: Repeat the injection after 48 hours (2 days) if necessary. A course of 2 injections is usually sufficient to control infection.
Note: Do not inject more than 20 ml in a single injection site for large animals, and no more than 5 ml for small animals.
【CONTRAINDICATIONS & WARNINGS】
Hypersensitivity: Do not use in animals with a known history of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins. In case of an anaphylactic reaction, administer epinephrine or antihistamines immediately.
Species Restrictions: Do not administer to small herbivores such as guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits, as it may cause severe, fatal gastrointestinal superinfections.
Route Warning: Do not administer via intravenous (IV) or intrathecal routes.
Local Reactions: Transient swelling or mild pain may occasionally occur at the injection site, which generally resolves without intervention.
